Music Program
Music is an important part of the secondary school curriculum. All middle school students have 1 block of music each week and music is offered as an elective subject in both IGCSE and IB. The student’s study centers on the three main aspects of music; listening, performing and composing. Through a variety of individual and group activities that integrate these three components, students broaden their knowledge and understanding of music and its diverse cultures and traditions.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of musical activities throughout the school. There are regular performing groups such as Secondary Choir, the vocal studio ‘La Voce’, a string quartet, two bands – ‘Sansara’ and ‘Algorhythm’, plus student-led mixed instrumental and vocal ensembles. These activities usually run as either after school activities or during lunch times. Also, students have an opportunity to share musical experience and demonstrate their skills during lunchtime concerts. Both Middle School and High School have annual musical productions led by students. Apart from that, there are a lot of opportunities for students to develop their potential in music – such as Musical Theatre workshop; annual Hyderabad Schools Choral festival, hosted by ISH; Christmas concerts; IB/IGCSE and La Voce recitals; annual Art and Music Festival ‘Tint’n’Tone’. Students have chance to participate in International Choir and Orchestra Festivals and perform for variety of events outside of school as well.
The secondary school has a well-equipped music room and practice/small group activity rooms. Students make use of a variety of instruments during classes including keyboards, guitars, ukuleles, recorders, and a wide range of percussion. Some string instruments are available for students participating in the string ensembles.
