Secondary School
The Secondary School at the International School of Hyderabad (ISH) consists of the Middle School and the High School.
Secondary students share the same building, with the Middle School students generally having their classes on the ground floor and the High School students generally having their classes on the first floor.
ISH creates a variety of curricular and extracurricular opportunities for students to explore their individuality, to develop greater self-awareness, and to better recognise their communal responsibility. That communal responsibility helps students to:
- Recognise the interdependence of living things and the environment.
- Practice tolerance and celebrate differences.
- Function well in a team.
- Appreciate that what they say and do can affect the quality of life of others.
To support the needs of Secondary School students. ISH has an English as a Second Language Coordinator, a Learning Support teacher, and a Counselor. The Secondary School also has a dynamic peer-tutoring program. Students can be a part of that program either as peer tutors or as students who receive tutoring during school hours from peer tutors.
The Secondary School has a homeroom program. The homeroom teacher has primary responsibility for the pastoral care of students in each homeroom.
The Middle School
The Middle School at ISH provides a caring and stable environment, easing the transition of students from Elementary School to the organisational and learning demands of High School.
The ISH Middle School programme uses learning strategies appropriate to students undergoing rapid physical, social and emotional development. Teaching is designed to maximise learning by "doing" rather than listening.
ISH Middle School students develop their time management skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and ability to make sound, aesthetic and moral judgments. The ISH Middle School emphasizes reading, writing, speaking and listening, nonverbal expressions of the visual and performing arts, and the symbolic languages of mathematics and science. Middle School students also develop a working knowledge of Spanish or French.
Details about the Middle School curriculum may be found in the Curriculum section of the ISH webpage.
The High School
The High School at ISH provides students with the values, skills, and experiences that will allow them to be competitive applicants for university. In addition to preparing students for admission to university, the High School at ISH helps provides students with the life skills they will need to flourish at university and in their years after university.
The ISH High School programme uses learning strategies appropriate to adolescents. Classes are dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered. High School students take considerable responsibility for their learning, with teachers acting more as guides and less as deliverers of information.
Particular emphasis in the High School is placed on developing students’ abilities to synthesise, analyse. and communicate effectively.
Details about the High School curriculum may be found in the Curriculum section of the ISH webpage.
