School Organization
The formal responsibility for ISH lies with ICRISAT. The Director General of ICRISAT, Dr W. Dar, has delegated the day-to-day operation of ISH to the Head of School/Principal.
ICRISAT has created an Advisory Board to guide the Principal in managing the School. The Advisory Board consists of four appointed members.
The Principal heads the school and manages all aspects of the school. The Principal is Mr. Helge Gallinger. Mr. Gallinger may be reached by e-mail at h.gallinger@ishyd.org.
The school is divided into two distinct divisions: an Elementary School and a Secondary School.
The Elementary School comprises Reception-Grade 5 (3 – 12 year old students). Mrs. Sunita Verghese is Head of Elementary/Vice-Principal. Mrs. Verghese may be reached by e-mail at s.verghese@ishyd.org.
The Secondary School comprises Grades 6-12 (12 – 18 year old students). It is in turn divided into 2 divisions: Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12). Ms. Lily Nair is Head of Secondary/Vice-Principal. Ms. Nair may be reached by e-mail at l.nair@ishyd.org.
The International School of Hyderabad (ISH) was established by a group of parents in 1972. In 1982, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) received permission to operate a school to provide education for children of its employees. This was later amended to include children of expatriates living in the twin-cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. In 2002, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted ISH permission to admit a limited number of Indian Nationals.
The school functioned for many years on the premises of ICRISAT Social Club at Banjara Hills in the heart of the city.
In 2006, the school commissioned a purpose built Secondary School on the ICRISAT Campus on the outskirts of the city. The new Secondary School was completed in 2007 with secondary students shifting to the new school building.
In 2009, ISH broke ground on the new Elementary School next to the Secondary School. In late 2010, the elementary students shifted to the new facility. The whole of the new ISH school and administration buildings should be complete within the 2010-2011 school year.
Presently, the International School of Hyderabad (ISH) enrolls over 230 students from 26 countries and 55 faculty members are from both India and abroad. Most of our students are U.S. citizens. The parents of ISH students work for the consular missions in Hyderabad and for multi-nationals including Microsoft, Deloitte, Google, and Infosys. The student/faculty ratio at ISH is less than 1:6. Classes rarely have more than 15 students.
The Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer forum for:
* Fostering good relations between parents and teachers;
* Encouraging a spirit of cooperation and pride in the accomplishments of the school;
* Assisting in the organization of special events.
Special events in the past have included a welcome orientation for parents new to the school, social gatherings, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, auctions, concerts, fund raising activities, and international day celebrations.
The choice and focus of activities each year depends on the interests of the people who choose to participate.
