International School of Hyderabad

Frequently Asked Questions about ISH

How successful is ISH with college placements?

All ISH students obtain admission to university.  Nearly all ISH graduates attend university abroad. The vast majority attend university in the United States, with smaller numbers attending universities in the U.K., Canada, and Australia.

ISH has an inclusive admission policy, which means that we accept students with a range of ability levels and educational experiences.  An inclusive admission policy naturally means that some of our students will attend universities that are not selective or very selective, but not highly selective.  That said, ISH’s reputation as a nurturing school with academic rigor – and its accreditation by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) – make our graduates attractive for universities and colleges abroad. Among the universities ISH graduates attend are the College of William & Mary, Ohio State, New York University (NYU), the University of Southern California (USC), Manchester University, and the University of Toronto (see full list).

ISH has a college counselor on its faculty; the college counselor guides students and parents through each stage of the admission process.

There are other schools in Hyderabad.  Why choose ISH?

ISH is something different.

We are a nurturing school with 29 years of experience serving the expatriate population in Hyderabad.  Experience counts.  We were the first international school in the state to be authorized to administer the IB Diploma Program and we are the only one to be accredited by both a European and an American accrediting organization.  In practice, that means that students from ISH can seamlessly transfer to other international schools and to schools in their home countries.

Unlike other international schools, ISH is a non-profit school.  The non-profit structure allows the administration, board, and teachers to make educationally sound decisions.  Our affiliation with ICRISAT provides our students and teachers with access to unique facilities and opportunities including an on-site meteorological station, a working farm, research laboratories whose scientists embrace working with ISH students, and over 2,500 acres of green space!

Perhaps what distinguishes ISH most from other international schools in Hyderabad is our teachers.  Our non-profit structure and our emphasis on creating a positive learning environment have allowed ISH to recruit and retain excellent teachers.  Our teachers receive extensive, ongoing professional development to keep them challenged, up-to-date, and inspired.  They enjoy working with students and excel at it.
