Music is an important part of the secondary school curriculum. All middle school students have 2 periods of music each week and music is offered as an elective subject in both IGCSE and IB. The student’s study centres on the three main aspects of music; listening, performing and composing. Through a variety of individual and group activities that integrate these three components, students broaden their knowledge and understanding of music and its diverse cultures and traditions.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in other musical activities throughout the school including string, mixed instrumental and vocal ensembles. These activities usually run as either after school activities or during lunch times and depend on the mix of students from year to year. Annual productions and student led ensembles also offer opportunities for musical experiences.
The secondary school has a well equipped music room with attached practice/small group activity rooms. Students make use of a variety of instruments during classes including keyboards, guitars, and a wide range of percussion. Some string instruments are available for students participating in the string ensemble. Music notation software is also installed in the school’s ICT labs.
